Why our Hotel
El Portal Motel: Death Valley Lodging in Beatty NV
Our Motel is in Beatty, Nevada, also known as the Gateway to Death Valley. We’re only 8 miles from the Death Valley National Park Entrance.
Lodging here at El Portal Motel, you’ll enjoy first-rate hospitality at bargain prices. Also, the local herd of Beatty Burros (Donkeys) usually pays us a visit in the afternoons/evenings. They’re mighty friendly, and love a good scratch! (They don’t even mind posing with you for a selfie or two!)
During the day and night you can see for miles in any direction. Not only are the stars above Death Valley visible, but they shine so brightly that they give the feeling that you can reach out and touch them. Join us for the Dark Sky Festival From February 10th-12th.

Attractions
Death Valley boasts not only the hottest and the driest, but also the lowest point in the entire western hemisphere. Our Death Valley area lodging keeps you close to many exciting natural attractions including Titus Canyon, Scotty’s Castle, the Death Valley Sand Dunes, and much more.
Rhyolite is a small Nevada ghost town just a few miles west of Beatty. Once home to over 10,000 hopeful miners, Rhyolite was the busiest mining town of southern Nevada. Today Rhyolite is a popular spot to tour and get a taste of the past. The ghost town is also a popular location for movie sets.
Amargosa Valley The rural farming community of Amargosa Valley is a half hour’s drive away from our Motel here in Beatty. There you’ll find a wide array of people, buildings, and of course the Amargosa Sand Dunes. They are located in the center of the valley and attract visitors of all kinds. Some have even called it “an outdoorsman’s delight.” It is a popular place to ride dirt bikes and ATVs.
Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a unique experience. It is the last Oasis in the Mojave Desert, and home to many unique species of birds and aquatic life. **Ash Meadows is home to the Devil’s Hole Pupfish, the rarest fish in the world.
Officials estimate there are more than 800 wild burros in the Beatty area, staying in and around town thanks to its close proximity to the headwaters of the Amargosa River—or their main drinking water source in an otherwise very arid Mojave Desert.
Stargazing
The International Dark-Sky Association has designated Death Valley National Park a Gold Tier Dark Sky Park, which is its highest rating for viewability of stars in our gorgeous, pristine night sky.
